Husband Stitch series
3 spot illustrations in response to the short story, The Husband Stitch, by Carmen Maria Machado. Many women experience a lack of control or consent during pregnancy and birth. In many cases, this results in modifications of the body without knowledge. The husband stitch is a surgical procedure in which one or more sutures than necessary are used to repair a woman's perineum after it has been torn or cut during childbirth. This procedure is practiced for the sole purpose of increasing sexual pleasure for the male partner and can end up cause serious medial issues down the line as well as unnecessary pain during sex.
